IALR Leading New Additive Manufacturing School
for Navy Sailors and Marines
The Naval Aviation School for Additive Manufacturing (NASAM)—a six-week program that provides active-duty Navy and Marine Corps maintenance personnel with foundational skills in additive manufacturing—launched with a pilot cohort of 12 students in February 2024. The third cohort started in early June. The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) hosts and instructs the NASAM program.

“We are becoming an additive manufacturing center of gravity. Through different initiatives, we are preparing sailors and Marines to use additive technologies, training the additive workforce for Navy suppliers, and helping the Navy to develop additive technologies and processes that supplier companies can utilize.”James Hubbard, director of training and technology, IALR Manufacturing Advancement

87 Students Complete ATDM Program
Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) celebrated the achievements of 87 students who graduated as part of the program’s 11th cohort during a ceremony on June 11 at IALR.

“ATDM is a skilled-labor boot camp. This is such an important program. You all are part of the Navy as far as I’m concerned, whether you’re in uniform or not.”Matthew Zirkle, Retired U.S. Navy Rear Admiral
AET Prepares Students for Any Career
Driven by partnerships, the Academy for Engineering and Technology prepares high school juniors and seniors for engineering careers and provides foundational skills such as effective problem-solving, collaboration and creativity that benefit students regardless of their career path.

“This program shows students what an engineering career is like and provides some related technical skills. But even more than generating future engineers, AET is here to provide transferable college credits and sought-after soft skills that will position students for success in any career in any industry.” Dr. Julie Brown, IALR Vice President, Advanced Learning
