Jason Wells Joins IALR as EVP, Manufacturing Advancement
We are pleased to announce that Jason Wells has joined the IALR leadership team as Executive Vice President of Manufacturing Advancement, effective June 3. Wells brings nearly 30 years of experience in high-performance manufacturing and will provide executive-level strategic management and oversight of IALR’s growing Manufacturing Advancement division.
A Win-Win: Students Tackling Real-World Business Problems
IALR staffers coached several teams of high school students with the Academy for Engineering and Technology and a group of college students from the Hampton Roads area through the teamship model this spring. The model is simple: the businesses presented an open-ended problem to a group of students who, with guidance from a coach, worked together to understand the root of the issue and provide possible solutions.

Linda Green Wins Chamber’s WE Lead Award
for Female Leaders
Linda Hutson Green, IALR’s Vice President of Economic Development and Executive Director of the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance, has been awarded the inaugural WE Lead Award from the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce. The award was announced during the Chamber’s Annual Awards Banquet.

CEA Summit East: Early Bird Tickets and Student Research Poster Competition
CEA Summit East 2024 is now accepting abstracts for the Graduate Student Research Poster Competition. The 2024 summit will take place at the IALR Conference Center in October.

Early bird registration is also open for the day-and-a-half event that includes keynotes, breakout sessions, networking opportunities and tours.

Natori Neal Graduates from Leadership Southside Class of 2024
IALR's Apprenticeship Coordinator, Natori Neal, was recognized at the recent Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce's Annual Awards Dinner for her graduation of Leadership Southside Class of 2024. Leadership Southside is the Dan River Region’s premier leadership development program for the business, education, public and nonprofit sectors. Neal was one of 33 graduates from the region who completed the 10-month program.

Few Tickets Available for Summer STEM Camps
Students explore, create and learn at IALR's Summer STEM Camps! Our camps offer a variety of programs primarily for students in grades 3-8, including robotics, game design, digital music production, space and more.

We have a few spots left in camps happening throughout June and July.

Largest ATDM Career Fair to Date
Connects Students with Employers
Over 125 career-seeking students in the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program attended this month’s ATDM Career Fair, where they connected with over 25 employers from around the country. This program is making a major difference for the manufacturing base, career seekers and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Last Month at IALR
  • IALR hosted celebrations for the graduating classes of the Piedmont Governor’s School for Mathematics, Science and Technology and the Academy for Engineering and Technology – two dual–enrollment programs housed on our campus – in May. Congratulations, graduates, and thanks to our instructional partner, Danville Community College.

  • The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Awards Banquet at the IALR Conference Center, bringing in hundreds of business leaders for a celebration and dinner. Danville Community College, a consistent partner of IALR, won the Pinnacle Award. Congratulations to all the award winners.

  • In May, members of the Wonder Community of Lifelong Learning participated in a Cricut Open Lab and created shirts, mugs and more. The Wonder Community also hosted the first part of our American Sign Language workshop, where members learned basic signs and the fingerspelling of the alphabet.

  • Cohorts of two prominent Virginia leadership programs - the Virginia Rural Leadership Institute and Lead Virginia – visited the IALR campus to learn about our impact and focus areas.

  • During a 2024 Legislative Luncheon put on by the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, Linda Green moderated a panel discussion with several elected officials who represent Southern Virginia to recap the most recent legislative session.

  • Explore the World of American Sign Language with Part 2 of the virtual workshop from the Wonder Community of Lifelong Learning on June 4 from 6-7 p.m. Participants will learn fingerspelling, basic vocabulary, grammar and conversational techniques.

  • Register for a June 10 tour of IALR that will focus on the work of our Advanced Learning division. See the ways we create memorable STEM programs, connect students to careers and promote lifelong and service learning.
