The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) has supported the creation of both
Virginia’s first emergency medical technician (EMT) registered apprenticeship program and Virginia’s first registered paramedic apprenticeship program.

Registration Opens for Summer STEM Camps

This year we offer nine different camps between June and July. Topics include robotics, video game creation, music production, STEM in space, machine learning and more. Many serve students in grades 3-8, but a few options exist for earlier and later grades as well.

Ninth Cohort of IMT Graduates

IALR and Danville Community College are proud to announce the graduation of the ninth cohort of the Integrated Machining Technology (IMT) program. Nine students completed the seven-month advanced training program and received
various industry-recognized credentials.

Robotic Simulation Software Training
|
|
|
|
IALR hosted a three-day robotic simulation class for 15 regional community college and high school instructors. This was the first external training opportunity provided in the Center for Manufacturing Advancement.

- The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce will host its 2024 Legislative Update – Lunch with our Legislators on May 9.
- IALR will host two computer training workshops in May, providing attendees with foundational skills in Microsoft Excel on May 14 and teaching participants the basics of Canva on May 23.
- Join a group tour of IALR 3:45-4:45 p.m. on May 30 to see our programs, research and impact up close.
- The Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Awards Ceremony from 5-8:30 p.m. on May 30.

ICC Hosts 1,000+ at God’s Pit Crew Banquet

The Institute Conference Center (ICC) at IALR recently welcomed over 1,000 guests for God's Pit Crew’s annual benefit banquet. Spanning three nights, the event highlighted the impactful work of the organization and showcased the ICC as Southern Virginia’s premier event venue.

IALR Staffer Participates in Lead Virginia

Allison Moore, the Director of Public Relations and Communications at IALR, is one of 46 participants in the 2024 cohort of Lead
Virginia, a prestigious leadership development program.

- EPL America, LLC, a global specialty packaging manufacturer, is investing $37.4 million to expand its manufacturing facility in the City of Danville.
- Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matthew Lohr wrote an editorial highlighting the growth of the controlled environment agriculture sector in Virginia with support from collaborative efforts like the CEA Innovation Center, a partnership between IALR and Virginia Tech.

- After more than 20 years working with the Institute Conference Center (ICC) at IALR, Information Desk Specialist Theresa Lewis retired in April. With her genuine smile and friendly personality, Lewis welcomed thousands of guests and partners, including local officials, business leaders, state and national lawmakers, and others.
- The ICC at IALR hosted the Danville Public Schools Career and Technical Education Career Expo last month, allowing students to connect with industry professionals.
- The 12th cohort of the ATDM program kicked off in early April. A total of 85 students began their journey to gain meaningful careers in the defense and submarine industrial base.
- At the Martinsville NASCAR race in April, the Build Submarines Car driven by
Brad Keselowsk of RFK Racing featured the ATDM logo prominently on the hood. ATDM student and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Dustin Frantz also enjoyed his name on the car as the "star skilled tradesperson."
- The Danville Office of
Economic Development and Tourism hosted the Southern Virginia Regional Procurement Fair at IALR, drawing 300 small businesses to learn more about procurement opportunities and ways to network, gain access to capital and more.
- IALR President Telly Tucker participated in a fireside chat panel about resources and innovation for tech startups in Southern Virginia during The Launch Place’s IdeaFest business pitch competition.
- The Wonder
Community of Lifelong Learning experimented with the Cricut's Print and Cut feature during an April workshop. Participants created 21 unique holographic sticker designs featuring Virginia as the subject matter.
